From teaching Catholic children in Ireland or French settlers and American Indians in Dakota Territory, each ministry contains an educational facet. The Presentation Sisters are also known for their work in healthcare and their sponsorship of Avera Health. The early sisters arrived in Wheeler, South Dakota, in 1880 but soon after traveled north to Fargo, Dakota Territory. Well, to manifest our love and thanksgiving for Sister Petronilla Metzger, her 100th was celebrated and remembered with special events for three days: on September 27, her actual birthday, with the Presentation Sisters and Associates at Sacred Heart Convent, Fargo; on September 28 with her large, extended family that culminated with the Eucharistic celebration presided by her grandnephew, Fr. On Saturday, October 5, we hosted the Women on the Prairie Conference in Aberdeen. Gaye Hanson, motivational speaker from Minnesota, joined 95 women to present “Balan-ZING:  The Art of Being Present in Every Moment.” Gaye was a delight to have as a presenter and the women loved her presentation.  She took us on a ride through laughter and tears as she shared stories of personal tragedy and triumphs with Christ. This past summer a Youth Group from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Biloxi, Mississippi, came to Presentation Sisters Center in Shaw, Mississippi, to do volunteer work for us. They were a small group but a powerful group in relation to the work they accomplished.  They power-hosed the entire building, weeded, trimmed trees, washed the entire fence and then painted it, plus prepared the porch and steps for painting.
