Sisters Fidelma, Mary and Sheila enjoy afternoon tea at St. Joseph Parish in Upland. This was a fundraiser designed to raise money to purchase food for the poor and homeless in the area. The parish operates a food pantry, called HIS HANDS, which provides food for those people whose income is too low to provide adequate food for the family. During the first three quarters of this fiscal year, 5,690 people received assistance from this ministry. Efforts to care for the earth and its resources have been a part of the Presentation Sisters’ mission for many years, so taking part in Green Aberdeen and their 1st Annual Earth Day Fair April 22, 2016, at the Briscoe Building and Aberdeen’s SD Central Park, was a natural fit. On Wednesday, April 20, 2016, Sister Helen Bonia celebrated her 100th birthday. April 20 brought a blizzard more powerful than any we had experienced during the winter months. Early morning preparations were colored with anxiety and doubts that the activities could take place. However, at 11:00 a.m., the chaplain, leadership team, family members had all successfully braved the storm and the celebratory Mass began. It was followed by a delicious dinner.
