SAN FRANCISCO: Love Shines at Motherhouse and Beyond on Valentine’s Weekend

A lot of love radiated out from the motherhouse on Valentine’s weekend! On the eve of Valentine’s Day, Sister Sylvia Llerena, her sister Sonja and their friend, Jean, brought homemade cookies and all the extras needed to decorate them. The sisters certainly enjoyed decorating them. No two cookies looked alike and their labors produced a festive array of Valentine treats frosted with shades of the rainbow and topped with sprinkles and candies! The trio also brought prizes for a raffle. After the tea that followed the work session, four sisters delivered more than one hundred baggies of cookies to the homeless in Golden Gate Park and near Saint Boniface Church.
On that same Saturday, Cathy Pickerel delivered more than 150 heart-shaped pillows to Laguna Honda Hospital. Accompanying Sister Dolores Maguire and Father Narcis Kabipi of the chaplaincy staff, she was able to walk through two floors and personally hand out the pillows to patients suffering the effects of dementia or brain injuries. While many of the patients weren’t able to communicate, they did hold their pillows close. Cathy also reports she accepted several thank yous on behalf of the many sisters and volunteers who worked on the pillow project.
