Partnership in Collecting Coats for Kids and Others

Winters in South Dakota can be cold and unpleasant, with freezing temperatures and blowing snow. Caminando Juntos, our Latino ministry in Sioux Falls, S.D., observed that many of the Hispanic people who were relocating to Sioux Falls were not prepared for the harshness of the winter climate. They did not have warm gloves, mittens, hats, or scarves to wear.

In response to this need, each January since 2015, we have partnered with businesses in the Sioux Falls community in collecting cold weather items/accessories for the men, women and children who visit the ministry center for assistance.

In honoring our Chapter call to Do Nothing Alone and the desire to reach more people in need, we have expanded the distribution reach for this cold weather collection. North Highland United Methodist Church organizes a Coats for Kids drive and distribution each year in Aberdeen. We are excited to deepen our partnership with them and help assist the collection efforts to provide more opportunity to warm a larger audience this winter.

North Highland Methodist Church is currently collecting cold weather items that will be distributed at their annual event on Saturday, October 30 from 9 a.m. to noon. To learn more and how you can help, please visit the North Highland website.
