Agnes McCarthy, associate from Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, received the Medal of Courage from the National Council of the Canadian Cancer Society. This award was presented by the lieutenant governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, Frank Fagan, at Government House on June 3, 2016.
Quoting from the letter that was read by one of the members of the Canadian Cancer Board of Directors when the award was announced:
This is a very special award granted to an outstanding individual who in his or her personal battle with cancer has exhibited exceptional courage and in so doing, serves as an inspiration and role model for others. Your generosity and dedication to the cancer cause, demonstrated through your extensive support of revenue development, health promotion, advocacy and peer support has assisted the Society greatly in our mission to eradicate cancer and enhance the quality of life of people living with cancer.
