On May 18 at Holy Rosary Cathedral in San Bernardino, Calif., Bishop Gerald R. Barnes presented the Our Lady of Guadalupe Award to Sister Mary Kelly from Upland.
According to diocesan guidelines, this award is presented to individuals from the parish or members of the civic community who have demonstrated exemplary generosity, leadership and/ or service beyond the scope of the parish for the common good of the diocesan or local civic communities (Diocesan Award Ceremony).
Sister Mary very well deserved this award as the following write-up indicates: “Sister Mary Kelly served as principal of St. Joseph School for 18 years. She has been a daily example of God’s love for each student, parent, staff member, parishioner and every stranger she meets. Sister Mary’s focus was on whatever helped the students succeed and thus worked tirelessly to provide an excellent academic program, redesigned the kindergarten space, updated the administrative offices and oversaw the construction of a new science wing for the school. She has been nurturing and loving when supporting others through difficult situations and her dedication and efforts demonstrate her support for the school, students, parents and the larger faith community at St. Joseph Parish.”
