On March 2-3, 2023, 10 students and two chaperones from the school were in San Francisco, staying at the Presentation motherhouse, spending time with the sisters, and engaging in acts of service in the community – an experienced called “Urban Plunge.” According to Grace Bernal, an alumna and the school’s director of Service and Immersion, “The purpose of our Urban Plunges is to provide our students with opportunities to have a deeper understanding of the issues of poverty, hunger, houselessness and immigration within the context of our local community.”
Over the two days the students shared meals and engaged in a group circle conversation with sisters, and went into the community to learn and provide service. It was enriching to everyone. Sister Pat Davis especially appreciated “the energy of the students being present; their youth; and the beauty of these young women living our mission.” Grace Bernal had a similar reaction: “The high point for me was being able to see the mutual joy shared between our students and the sisters. There was a palpable love in the room as our students and the sisters shared laughs and tears reflecting on the ways in which the sisters have spent their lives ministering to communities.”
